Does anyone know what film this is?

I don't know whether this is the right forum to ask this in or not but this was the only one I could think off posting in.
It's a song about a female song writer.. I think her name was Rita although i'm not too sure. I think it was based on a real life story. She was American and it's all based in America.
It's in the 60's and writes songs for a couple of people and then releases her own songs sung by herself. She marries a rock star (Beach boy kind of guy) and has 2 kids by him. He eventually goes paranoid and kills himself in the sea if I remember rightly.
I'm not sure if you guys have heard of it or not.. Please can you tell me what the film is called I'm dying to get it.
It was shown quite recently on English TV.. i think channel 5.
